The VCU Bleeding Disorders Program is excited to announce the addition of two new team members: Amy Newcombe and Sidney Glass.
Amy Newcombe, RN, MSN, CNL, joined our team as a Bleeding Disorders Nurse Coordinator in March 2022. Amy earned a BA in Anthropology and Social Studies of Medicine from McGill University, and her Master’s of Science in Nursing from the University of Virginia. She holds a specialty certification as a Clinical Nurse Leader. Amy has a background in both adult and pediatric critical care bedside nursing and clinical research. Most recently, she spent four years as a Research Nurse, coordinating clinical trials for the Department of Neurosurgery, focusing on acute spinal and traumatic brain injuries. When she’s not working, you can find Amy listening to podcasts, dancing badly, snapping photos, hosting Games Night, and watching foreign horror films.
Sidney “Sid” Glass is a Nurse Practitioner who joined the Central Virginia Center for Coagulation Disorders at VCU in Richmond where he is working with both children and adults with bleeding disorders. Prior to this role he worked as an inpatient nurse for many years on the Acute Care Pediatrics Unit at VCU.
Sid’s passion, outside of working in health care, is swimming. Sid began lessons at the age of three and has loved the water ever since. He began swimming competitively at the age of five and competed at the national level throughout his childhood and teenage years. He went on to swim Division I at the College of William and Mary and even competed at the 2012 United States Olympic Trials. He currently holds state and national records in several events for United States Masters Swimming.
“Swimming has always been a major part of my life, but it is also such a great form of exercise for people with bleeding disorders; there is a lot less stress on the joints than, say, running, there is very low risk of impact, and can be a great form of aerobic and anaerobic exercise. I am obviously biased, but I will always be the first to recommend swimming to my patients.”
