Celebrating 50 Years of the Virginia Hemophilia Foundation
Honoring Our Past, Embracing Our Future
Fifty years ago, a small but determined group of advocates came together with a shared mission: to support individuals and families affected by bleeding disorders in Virginia. On this day in 1975, their passion and dedication led to the founding of what is now the Virginia Hemophilia Foundation (VHF)—an organization that has since grown into a trusted resource for education, advocacy, and community support.
As we celebrate this milestone, we reflect on our journey—one that began with grassroots efforts, like the very first fundraising campaign in Hanover County. In an early newspaper article (go here to read), we see a snapshot of those beginnings: volunteers working tirelessly to raise awareness, secure funding, and provide essential support for families navigating the challenges of hemophilia and other bleeding disorders.
Over the past five decades, VHF has expanded its reach, offering educational programs, advocacy initiatives, and community-building events that empower individuals to live healthier, fuller lives. We have championed better access to care, supported critical research, and built a strong, engaged network of individuals and families who understand the power of coming together.
Looking Ahead
While we honor our past, we also look toward the future. The landscape of bleeding disorder treatment and advocacy continues to evolve, and so does our commitment to serving those in need. As we embark on the next 50 years, we remain dedicated to advancing our mission: to serve and support those impacted by bleeding disorders through education, advocacy, and community.
None of this would be possible without the unwavering support of our community—patients, families, healthcare providers, donors, and volunteers. Thank you for being part of our story. Here’s to the next chapter!
