Are you a young adult in the bleeding disorders community looking for an opportunity to grow, lead, and make a lasting impact? The National Youth Leadership Institute (NYLI) might be the perfect fit for you! The 2025 NYLI Cohort Application is officially open. The application will close on March 1st, 2025. Go here to learn more and apply today!
NYLI is a dynamic two-year leadership program designed for young adults between the ages of 19 and 24 who want to develop professional skills, gain leadership experience, and contribute to the bleeding disorders community in a meaningful way. Participants receive hands-on training, mentorship, and opportunities to educate and advocate for the community while connecting with like-minded peers across the country.
NYLI is structured to build leadership skills through a combination of in-person trainings, webinars, and ongoing mentorship. The program offers three specialized tracks to tailor participants’ experiences to their personal and professional goals. NYLI is more than just a leadership program—it’s a chance to be part of something bigger. Paxton Mills, a current NYLI member from VHF, shares:
“NYLI is a phenomenal opportunity for young adults hoping to become established leaders in the bleeding disorders community. The organization has introduced me to the incredible staff and volunteers of the National Bleeding Disorders Foundation, as well as other youth affected by bleeding disorders from all across the country. My favorite memories from NYLI are from the annual Bleeding Disorders Conference (BDC), an event which NYLI members are frequently able to participate in through managing and even speaking at sessions across a variety of topics, including but not limited to both disorder-specific and teen programming. The organization values your story as a young community member and provides ample opportunity for you to share your experiences. With NYLI alone, I’ve been able to travel to the DC area, Nebraska, Atlanta, and San Antonio for bleeding disorders programming and networking.
Additionally, NYLI currently has a track-based curriculum, where members differentiate into one of three tracks: education, advocacy, and research. Within these tracks, you will work closely with the corresponding NBDF department to learn about their operations, work which will culminate in the completion of a related capstone project of your choice. I would highly recommend the program to any and all Virginia community members!”
Applications are now open. Eligible applicants must be between the ages of 19 and 24, have a bleeding disorder or a sibling with one, be willing to travel for trainings and events, and commit to regular communication and participation.
