March is Bleeding Disorders Awareness Month
Join us for a season of showing support and raising awareness for all bleeding disorders!
March is Bleeding Disorders Awareness Month (BDAM), during this Season of Giving, we invite you to support our mission by making a donation. Your generosity helps fund vital programs, scholarships, and advocacy efforts, ensuring that those with bleeding disorders receive the care and support they need. Every gift stays local and makes a difference—join us in raising awareness and creating lasting impact.
Since being recognized as a National Health Observance in 2016 and officially designated in Virginia in March 2019, BDAM has been an opportunity to raise awareness, educate, and celebrate the bleeding disorders community. This year, we are taking it a step further with a month-long campaign incorporating new awareness days created by our friends at the Bleeding Disorders Association of South Carolina. We will highlight key aspects of bleeding disorders through dedicated awareness weeks and special focus days starting with Von Willebrand Disease (VWD) Awareness Day on March 1. We will then turn our focus to VHF’s 50th Anniversary, raising donations for our scholarship program and Camp Youngblood. Mid-March will spotlight Ultra-Rare Bleeding Disorders, followed by a week dedicated to Hemophilia Awareness posts, including both Hemophilia A & B and women and girls with bleeding disorders. As we close out the month, we will recognize the contributions and challenges of women with bleeding disorders, leading up to World Hemophilia Day on April 17, which this year emphasizes that “Women and Girls Bleed Too.”
VHF’s 50th Anniversary Celebration at Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden on Sunday, March 16th will be a major highlight of BDAM, bringing together our community to reflect on our history, honor those who have shaped our mission, and build connections for the future. This special event will feature engaging activities, exhibit booths, and an inspiring program to recognize 50 years of advocacy, education, and support.

Together, we are raising awareness and creating a brighter future for those living with bleeding disorders. THANK YOU!
We are thrilled to announce that thanks to the incredible generosity of our entire community, we have surpassed our fundraising goal for the 2024 Bleeding Disorders Awareness Month Season of Giving and raised $11,000!
This wouldn’t have been possible without the unwavering support of each and every one of you – our dedicated donors, constituents, and supporters. Your contributions, big and small, will make a significant impact in raising awareness and advancing resources for those living with bleeding disorders. Throughout the BDAM season, March 1st to April 20th, VHF focused our fundraising efforts on our scholarship program which includes our Lyman Fisher Scholarship, Terry Lamb Enrichment Scholarship, and travel grants for national meetings. Because of our fundraising success we awarded FIVE Lyman Fisher Scholarships to qualified applicants and hope to receive several applications for the National Bleeding Disorder Foundation (NBDF) Conference in Atlanta, GA. Together, we are making a difference!
We are deeply grateful for your belief in our mission and your commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of those living with bleeding disorders. Thank you once again for your incredible support!
We look forward to starting the celebration and awareness raising season again staring March 1, 2025, especially since we will be celebrating our 50th Anniversary! Go here to learn more.
