Eliza Hunt, Associate Administrator of Central Virginia Center for Coagulation Disorders at VCU School of Medicine
VCU has expanded adult bleeding disorder services to the Tidewater region through its new quarterly satellite clinic at VCU Health at William and Mary in Williamsburg.
For many patients, adult care previously required several hours of travel to Richmond. The Williamsburg clinic reduces that burden by bringing adult hematology expertise closer to home. The clinic is staffed by the same adult bleeding disorders team, ensuring continuity of care within a single, coordinated program.
This expansion is particularly important for young adults transitioning from pediatric care at CHKD. As patients age out of pediatric services, having a clear adult pathway within the region helps ensure stability, continuity, and long term management. The clinic also provides a closer option for adults across Hampton Roads who have historically traveled significant distances for specialized care.
Early patient response has been overwhelmingly positive, with strong satisfaction and clear evidence that the satellite model is reducing travel strain and improving access. This effort reflects continued collaboration across Virginia’s bleeding disorder community to strengthen adult care access throughout the region.
To make an appointment at the Williamsburg or Richmond location, please call 804 827 3306. The next adult Williamsburg clinic will be held May 7, 2026. Space is limited.
