Thank you, Jan and Mindy! Jan Kuhn and Mindy Nolte will be retiring from the VCU Hemophilia Treatment Center (HTC) on March 1, 2023 and we wanted to take the time to thank them for their dedication and service to the Virginia bleeding disorders community – you will be missed!
From the VCU HTC Team: The VCU Hemophilia Treatment Center (HTC) team would like to thank Jan Kuhn and Mindy Nolte for their many years of dedication and service to the bleeding disorders community, VCU, and our team. During their time at VCU, the program has experienced many changes and growth and, thanks to their work, today stands well prepared for the next chapter of advances in treatment and care.
Through Jan’s leadership as both the VA Bleeding Disorders Program (VBDP) and HTC program manager, she has led numerous public health initiatives, mentored team members, provided compassionate care to countless patients and families, and led the program in several research initiatives. Among her achievements was the successful development of a 340b pharmacy partnership that will sustain the HTC for years to come.
Mindy’s dedication to patient care is well known but her work to support HTC research, education and public health projects has also provided valuable contributions and will have an impact well into the future. Her kindness toward all people (and animals) will long be remembered.
Through their example, they have taught us to always put patients first and the value of a supportive team dedicated to a shared mission. They shared many laughs with us, and also helped make the hardest days better, for patients and for our team. They will be missed but will always be a part of our HTC. Congratulations!
From Gita Massey, MD: As a provider in our coagulation clinic, this is a bittersweet moment. I have been so fortunate to work these many years with both Jan and Mindy. Their devotion to the bleeding disorder community has been unsurpassed as has their knowledge of the special needs of our patients. I could not have asked for better colleagues. Thank you both for your dedication, advocacy, teaching, caring and compassion. I will not however say goodbye, for I hope our paths will continue to cross and our friendships flourish, although I will truly miss your presence at the clinic and hospital. From the bottom of my heart, may your future days bring you both rest, peace, and much happiness you have truly shown us the best of the human spirit!!
From Marcus Allen, CYSHCN Program Director and Shamaree Cromartie, Blood Disorder Coordinator, Virginia Department of Health: The Virginia Department of Health, Children and Youth with Special Health Care Needs (CYSHCN) program would like to enthusiastically thank Jan Kuhn, RN, MPH for 27 wonderful years managing the Virginia Bleeding Disorders Program (VBDP). During this time, Jan has been a tireless leader who consistently worked hard to make sure people living with bleeding disorders received the care they deserve.
This included working statewide to make sure that clients had access to factor, as needed, via a pool of funds, access to an insurance case management program and access to various patient assistant programs. The Affordable Care Act and Medicaid expansion opened up new opportunities for people living with bleeding disorders and Jan and her team of experts adapted by supporting clients as they sought to obtain much needed insurance. It is clear that people living in Virginia with bleeding disorders are better off due to her service and that of her team of experts at Virginia Commonwealth University.
The CYSHCN program looks forward to continuing to work with the team to manage the statewide VBDP program. Again, we thank Jan for her service and for putting together a team of experts who are critical to moving the program forward seamlessly!
