As families prepare for the new school year, we’d like to share some materials to ease the transition back to school. Mental Health America has all the supplies and support you and your child need for a healthy and successful year. From notebooks and wristbands to tote bags and pins, their collection features items designed to start the academic year off right while increasing mental health awareness. Review their resources and supplies here.
These additional trusted resources were recommended by Stacy Stephenson, M.A., Educational Consultant with the Hospital Education Program at Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU. Understood.org offers easy-to-understand information comparing 504 Plans and Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), along with resources on executive functioning, anxiety, organization, and other common learning challenges. The Ultimate 504 Accommodations Guide provides practical accommodation ideas and examples to help families identify supports that may benefit their child. The Parent Educational Advocacy Training Center (PEATC) also offers free fact sheets, webinars, trainings, and advocacy tools to help families navigate school supports and services. We hope these resources make the school year a little easier to navigate and if you’re unsure where to start, your HTC team is always available to answer questions and help you advocate for your child’s needs at school.
