The Lyman Fisher Memorial Scholarship was established to honor Dr. Lyman Fisher, a teacher, researcher, and clinician in hemostasis. For many years, he directed the adult hemophilia program for Virginia. He is remembered for his steadfast commitment to his patients and students, his respect for those who served under him, his community service, and his affection for his family. I would like to express my gratitude and appreciation to the VABDF community for providing me a scholarship. This Lyman Fisher Scholarship will help me pursue my future goal to complete my studies at Old Dominion University. My experiences with VABDF is always wonderful. I’m able to meet so many new people and learn about their challenges and strengths living with blood disorders. My educational and career goals are to help people in the medical field with a smile on my face. This scholarship will help my educational future by helping me pay for my studies to give me access to meet many people in the same field as me and learn their techniques and use them myself. This scholarship gave me the support I needed to transfer to a new school that was better suited for my career aspirations. The bleeding disorder community and VABDF has always been there for me and in this college chapter of my life the feeling of family within this community has never felt closer to my heart. The Lyman Fisher Scholarship continues to enable my pursuit of life science at the highest level as I push towards my goal of becoming an environmental scientist.

The Lyman Fisher scholarship will help me achieve my goals by paving the way for me to focus on school even more, and cement myself as a pillar in the VCU community. Paying for even just a small portion of my tuition helps me focus less on financials, and more on academics. Additionally, it’s amazing to know that people out there believe in me enough to help fund my education. It motivates me to do my best every day, and make my mark.

The Lyman Fisher Scholarship will allow me to continue the pursuit of my undergraduate degree when I travel to Antwerp, Belgium in the spring. I have always wanted to try European culture. Traveling abroad will expand my knowledge into the many industries throughout Europe. Studying abroad will undoubtedly be an amazing experience that will allow me to grow my personal and professional development in understanding worldwide business relations. I have grown so much throughout my time in Japan, and I cannot wait until I can travel the world again. I am ever grateful to all of those in the Bleeding Disorder Community, and more specifically the Virginia Bleeding Disorders Foundation for helping me achieve this amazing opportunity. VABDF has always been a part of my life and has supported me and many others for as long as I can remember.

My relationship to VABDF and the bleeding disorders community goes back as far as I can remember. VABDF has been a meaningful part of my life through the events I attended with my family, and I am very grateful to be supported by a community that has been part of my life for so long. This fall, I plan to attend DePauw University, where I will study Economics and Statistics. This scholarship will help ease some of the financial pressure of college and allow me to focus more fully on my education, future opportunities, and the goals I am working toward.

By receiving this scholarship, I would gain a tool to further my ambitions and turn my aspirations into action. I have seen the impact that access has had on my family, and I want to make it less rare. I look forward to working toward a world where that is a real outcome.
