March is Bleeding Disorders Awareness Month (BDAM) — Today marks the beginning of BDAM, a national observance that includes all inherited bleeding disorders — from hemophilia to von Willebrand disease (VWD), rare factor deficiencies, and platelet disorders. This month is a time when we come together to raise awareness, educate, uplift, and advocate for the individuals and families living with inherited bleeding disorders here in Virginia. This year, your support is more important than ever.
Our Financial Assistance Program has seen an extraordinary increase in need. At this time last year during Fiscal Year 2024-2025, we had distributed $5,724 in emergency aid. This year during Fiscal Year 2025-2026, that number has more than doubled, reaching $12,530 and March has only just begun. Behind every dollar is a member of our community struggling with utility expenses, rent, transportation barriers, insurance challenges, or other urgent needs. This March, we are asking our community to stand with us. Every gift, of any amount, helps us meet the growing demand for support.
