The Virginia Hemophilia Foundation (VHF), the Hemophilia Association of the Capital Area (HACA), and Camp Holiday Trails (CHT) teamed up again July 14th-19th for Camp Youngblood! It was another unforgettable week, filled with laughter, friendship, and empowering experiences.

This year’s camp brought together an incredible group of 41 kids and teens living with inherited bleeding disorders, their siblings, and families from the community. From the moment they arrived, the camp buzzed with excitement as campers reunited with old friends and eagerly anticipated the week’s adventures.

CHT’s dedicated staff created a safe and supportive environment where campers could thrive. The camp offered a wide range of activities, from thrilling outdoor adventures like zip-lining and canoeing to creative outlets like arts and crafts and drama. These experiences helped campers build confidence, develop new skills, and foster a sense of independence.

A highlight of the week was the opportunity for campers to connect with others who share similar experiences. Through shared challenges and triumphs, they formed lasting bonds and created a supportive community. Camp Youngblood is more than just a camp; it’s a place where campers feel understood, accepted, and empowered.

This year, Camp Youngblood introduced a new program, Family Friday, which allowed parents to experience the magic of camp firsthand. Parents joined their campers for a half-day of camp activities, creating unforgettable memories together. This special day provided families with a unique opportunity to bond, build connections, and gain a deeper appreciation for the camp experience. Go here to view the highlight reel.

We extend our sincere gratitude to the dedicated staff and volunteers who made Camp Youngblood 2024 a resounding success. Your support is instrumental in providing these life-changing experiences for our campers. A huge thank you to Dr. Colleen Druzgal from University of Virginia’s (UVA’s) Pediatric Hemophilia Treatment Center (HTC) who was the medical lead for the week along with Amy Walker, RN, BSN, VHF Board President, who was on hand to assist with infusions and self-infusions for campers.

As we look forward to next year, we are already excited to create even more unforgettable memories at Camp Youngblood.
