Join Us For A Golden Milestone: Honoring Our Past, Building Our Future |
Krista Davidson | VHF Member
Hi friends! As you know, March is Bleeding Disorders Awareness Month. This year will be extra special as the community celebrates 50 years of VHF history. It is humbling to reflect on the suffering we have endured, the challenges we have overcome, and the progress we have made in treating those living with a bleeding disorder. In honor of each other and our loved ones, a new sitting wall and memorial plaque will be unveiled during a special ceremony at the Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden in Richmond.
On Sunday, March 16th after the Annual Meeting please join VHF and your fellow community members in unveiling this memorial. The event will begin at 10:30 am and will be a once-in-a-lifetime experience to commemorate VHF’s legacy. Some highlights will include entertainment, refreshments, a special ceremony to honor our loved ones, and a keynote guest speaker. The event will culminate around 1:00 pm with a walk to the wall and a commemorative photo. I hope everyone will consider attending this special occasion.
If you are unable to attend please consider purchasing VHF's 50th Anniversary merchandise - $1 from every sale supports the creation of VHF’s Sitting Wall, a serene memorial honoring our community, to be unveiled during the celebration or you can make a donation here.

Apply For A VHF Travel Grant To Attend The 2025 NBDF Bleeding Disorders Conference |
Application deadline for VHF travel grant for NBDF Bleeding Disorders Conference is 5:00 pm, Friday, April 4, 2025 Daniel Abraham | VHF Member and VHF Travel Grant Recipient
"When I first filled out the application, what I had hoped to gain from the experience was an education I had been partially neglecting most of my life. Well, I found that and learned a great deal. I stand fascinated by the advances our medical technology is making and look forward to the future of treatment. As I reflected on my time at the conference during my flight home however, what I actually discovered is that I had gained a few things I hadn't expected to find; a sense of community, responsibility, and obligation to those in the bleeding disorder family. Things I never realized I was missing. In many ways I was already headed in this direction in a desire to help with advocacy efforts, but this conference has catalyzed my decision to be involved on a deeper level."

Empowering The Next Generation: Join NBDF’s National Youth Leadership Institute (NYLI) |
Application deadline for NYLI is March 1st, 2025 Paxton Mills | VHF member and a current NYLI member
"NYLI is a phenomenal opportunity for young adults hoping to become established leaders in the bleeding disorders community. The organization has introduced me to the incredible staff and volunteers of the National Bleeding Disorders Foundation, as well as other youth affected by bleeding disorders from all across the country. My favorite memories from NYLI are from the annual Bleeding Disorders Conference (BDC), an event which NYLI members are frequently able to participate in through managing and even speaking at sessions across a variety of topics, including but not limited to both disorder-specific and teen programming. The organization values your story as a young community member and provides ample opportunity for you to share your experiences. With NYLI alone, I've been able to travel to the DC area, Nebraska, Atlanta, and San Antonio for bleeding disorders programming and networking."
