Bleeding Disorders Awareness Month Wrap Up Thank you to every person who donated and helped spread awareness during our March Bleeding Disorders Awareness Month (BDAM) campaign. You donated over $2,800 toward the BDAM campaign and helped us to surpass our original goal of $2,000! The money raised will go toward our Lyman Fisher Scholarship. Lyman Fisher Scholarship The VHF Lyman Fisher Scholarship was established to honor Dr. Lyman Fisher, a teacher, researcher, and clinician in hemostasis. For many years, he directed the adult hemophilia program for Virginia. Scholarships are one-year awards in the amount of $2,000 for a full academic year. Advocacy Update The Virginia General Assembly adjourned sine die (seen-ay dee-ay as they say in the Senate and sine (sign-ee-die as in “dead” as they in the House of Delegates) on Saturday, March 12, 2022. The members did not complete their business, leaving the budget bill incomplete and a number of bills that were “in conference,” resolving differences in language between two bills with the same purposes. NHLBI Grant Supports Scientific Research to Enhance Hemophilia A Gene Therapies A group of investigators are embarking on a new research program designed to unpack some of the outstanding fundamental questions associated with current approaches to gene therapy for hemophilia A. While multiple gene therapies are currently in various stages of preclinical or clinical studies there remain concerns relevant to the biological nuances affecting long term safety and efficacy.
