As the leaves change and the fall air settles in, we’re excited to update you on what’s happening at VHF. October is a busy time as we gear up for upcoming events to close out 2024. We're also feeling nostalgic, with a special throwback to our 2011 Community Event & Fall Festival. It’s a reminder of the strong bonds we've built and how, together, we can continue to support one another and grow as a united community!

Amber is Making a Difference! |
Amber Beall, age 11, is making a difference! Grateful for VHF’s support this year, which included sponsoring her trip to Camp Youngblood and Great Wolf Lodge for this year's Medical Symposium, and the Terry Lamb Enrichment Scholarship for her musical theater class. Inspired by a shirt she wore, Amber even raised $20 through her lemonade stand, saying, “I came up with the idea because of a shirt I was wearing also I wanted to spread awareness about hemophilia one cup of lemonade at a time.” Thank you Amber!

VHF Celebrates Young Athletes at the Gettin' in the Game Junior National Championship |
VHF nominated two participants for this year’s 22nd Annual Gettin’ in the Game Junior National Championship (JNC), where children and their caregivers from over 50 chapters across the country traveled to Henderson, Nevada, from September 20-22, 2024, to participate in this annual event. Here’s what Liam (Mr. ESPN) had to say about his experience: "My name is Liam Brinkley and I was chosen for JNC. I had an amazing time. I made a lot of new friends. Everyone there was so nice and encouraging. I got the nickname 'Mr. ESPN' because I made two Willie Mays over-the-shoulder catches and a diving catch. I learned a lot from the coaching and scrimmage game. I can’t wait to go back!"

NBDF Celebrates Factor X Day |
NBDF's virtual Factor X Awareness Day event is on October 10th and this year's theme is all about building connections, so come and meet others who share your experience. You'll hear personal stories and learn about valuable resources from the National Bleeding Disorders Foundation. Factor X Deficiency is an ultra-rare bleeding disorder that makes it hard for your blood to clot. This happens when a protein called Factor X is missing or not working right. Because of this, blood clots don’t form properly, so you might bleed more easily. Only about 1 in 500,000 to 1 million people have this condition, which is also called Stuart-Prower Factor Deficiency, named after the first two people who were diagnosed.
