2019 HACA/VHF Teen Retreat

A weekend of fun and learning for teens that are faced with similar challenges. Highlights include: Sessions on educational opportunities, scholarships, storytelling and advocacy, and a panel discussion with young adults who are affected by a bleeding disorder. » RSVP here by July 15th

For teens age 13–17 who live within HACA/VHF territory and meet one of the following criteria:

  • Have a bleeding disorder
  • Are the sibling of someone with a bleeding disorder
  • Have a parent/caregiver with a bleeding disorder

If a hotel room is requested then parent/caregiver must be in attendance with registered teen(s). Overnight accommodations at The Founder’s Inn will be available on Friday, August 9th and Saturday, August 10th. Educational programs, scheduled meals, community event, and overnight accommodations are provided at no cost for constituents that live in the HACA/VHF coverage area. There is a $25 registration fee per family.

Friday, August 9th

6:30 pm: Educational dinner at The Founders Inn | Speaker: Edgar Martinez, Hemophilia A Patient Educator, Octapharma USA

Topic: “My Hemophilia Journey” Born in the US Virgin Islands, Edgar moved to Florida where he was first diagnosed with Hemophilia A at the age of 10. In this presentation Edgar will discuss his journey living with hemophilia and his involvement in the community. Edgar will facilitate a discussion around building a support system from personal experiences.

*Dinner is optional and open to immediate family members and/or household members of participating teen(s)*

Saturday, August 10th 

9:30 am: Breakfast is open to immediate family members and/or household members of participating teen(s).

10:00 am – 4:15 pm: Educational sessions for teens, lunch will be provided.

Sunday, August 11th

9:00 am – 12:00 pm Community Event | The Adventure Park at Virginia Aquarium.

*Community Event is optional and open to immediate family members and/or household members of participating teens(s).*

Get active with your bleeding disorders community and engage in the health benefits of zip-lining and climbing! This fun and educational activity engages participants in overcoming perceived limitations, increasing self-confidence, and recognizing personal strengths and limitations. This amazing aerial forest park features climbing and zip lining through majestic trees near the Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center’s Marsh Pavilion. Take to the treetops on 16 trails that weave between tree platforms on the 6-acre site. There is no fee to attend this event and lunch will be provided.
