On the night of her election, Del. Dawn Adams agreed to patron our resolution, her first piece of legislation as a delegate! She also sought co-patrons in Delegates Patrick Hope, Debra Rodman, and Kathy Tran building a broad geographic range of support.
HJR 16 was born! The resolution passed both houses of the General Assembly with unanimous votes, and beginning in March 2019, Virginia will designate March officially as Bleeding Disorders Month.
In the resolution, the Clerk of the House of Delegates will transmit a copy of the resolution to the Virginia Board of Health and the designation will be part of the Virginia General Assembly’s website — and VHF will have some bragging rights!
The intent of this nationwide effort is to increase public awareness of the impact bleeding disorders has on affected individuals and families. We will build on the issuance of this resolution in 2019 and beyond, as we pursue our own awareness efforts.
We expect that Del. Adams will officially present the resolution at our annual meeting on June 9th, please plan to attend.
